Mission Statement

"𝑬𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒓𝒎." - Anke Wonder, Founder

Anke Wonders collections combine both ethics and elegant aesthetics by creating high-quality products that are colorful yet sustainable.

‘I believe that animals don't belong in fashion production in any form. For that reason, no leather, fur, wool, silk or any other animal products are used. Furthermore, I believe that everyone who is involved in creating our garments and their materials deserve respect through safe work conditions and fair wages. I also believe that we should use responsibly the resources of our planet and therefore, I choose fabrics that have a lower impact on the planet or upcycle already existing materials.’ - Anke Wonder, Founder

Fabric Glossary:

🦄 Unused fabric in stock that has been remaining from a previous collection. It is also the fabric that has been received from local individuals because there was no purpose anymore for them. Instead of donating these fabrics with the risk of maybe ending up in the landfill, they are used for small quantities or one-of-a-kind garments. The term "unused fabric in stock" is not the same as "deadstock fabrics" that are bought from factories as so-called leftover fabrics. With deadstock fabric, it is uncertain if it was a true factory overproduction or an intentionally produced fabric as a game of price calculation.

→ This is our way to prevent fabrics from going to the landfill.

→ We reduce the spread of microfibers by washing our synthetic clothes with a special ‘monofilament’ laundry bag that holds back 90% of microplastics.

→ Read our blog article about the serious consequences of plastic pollution for the ocean and follow our washing recommendations on the product page.

🌱 Organic Linen
Linen is known for its very strong, absorbent, anti-bacterial fiber that dries fast. Because linen fibers are hollow, linen garments keep you cool and fresh in hot and humid weather as well as nice and warm in the winter. Isn't that the perfect combination?! Our last organic linen shirts are made out of organic linen from Germany, Anke Wonders home country, where she goes on a yearly basis to visit with her family. Learn more about Anke Wonders journey.

→ Less water is used in the production of linen compared to ‘conventional’ linen which makes linen an eco-friendlier fiber.

100% GOTS certified organic cotton
Our GOTS certified organic cotton comes from a manufacturer in the USA who sources all of our fabrics either from India, China, South Korea, or Pakistan. The cotton is 100% organically grown cotton, using non-toxic methods to control crops from seed to harvesting in order to benefit farmers, processors, Earth, and you. The colorful patterns are printed with low impact, petroleum based dyes which comes with several benefits. No toxic chemicals are needed to fix the colors to the fabric, the water is recyclable and less energy is needed. The organic cotton is 100% GOTS certified, which includes the dying and printing methods.

→ Our manufacturer works closely with mills which are committed to ethical and responsible conduct. The payment of a living wage and no child labor is also garanteed through its Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification.

🎨 100% organic cotton sateen with Anke Wonders exclusive painting prints on it. These garments feature in-house-designed prints which are prints of Ankes original acrylic paintings, making them a piece of wearable art.The fabric is printed digitally from our manufacturer in the USA. The water-based pigments, inks and dyes meet the Oeko-Tex 100 requirement to be free of restricted chemicals. The digital printing process uses less water, energy and ink compared to reactive dyes. Our manufacturer works only with a small group of organic cotton vendors to ensure ethical practices throughout the supply chain. Find out more about the in-house-designed fabrics

→ The water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous, 100% toxin-free, contain no animal by-products and they are safe for infants and babies! Because of the absence of chemicals, organic cotton has health benefits to our world, the people who process the cotton as well as us as consumers.

♻️ Upcycled Materials
We upcycle different materials like thin boxes which are complementary to our bow ties and neckties. Our womens neckties are made out of refurbished ties. Artworks also often contain materials that are upcycled. You will always find these information in the product description!

What means GOTS certified?

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. The worldwide accepted GOTS seal is given to products when their entire process of cultivation, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution matches ecological and social criteria. That means for example that the chemical input is controlled and regulations of toxicity and biodegradability have to be met. Also, work conditions need to be safe with reasonable work hours, minimum wages, and no child  labor. Learn more about the social and environmental criteria of the GOTS seal.

What we stand for:

Ethical

We pride ourselves on partnering with fabric suppliers that treat their employees with dignity and respect and ensure this throughout their supply chain. We also ensure for example safe work conditions, no child labor and a payment of a living wage through the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification of our fabrics. In the final stage, all products are made and sewed by the designer, Anke Wonder, locally in Milwaukee to further reduce their carbon footprint.

Kind to animals
We don't support the use of animals in fashion. No leather, fur, wool, silk or any other animal products. Therefore there are also no animal byproducts used in the inks for our colorful prints, making Anke Wonder a vegan fashion brand.

Environmentally friendly packaging
All of our products ship in 100% recycled and recyclable plastic mailers or 100% recycled and biodegradable paper mailers.

Made for you
We believe that garments are worn longer when they are loved. In order to avoid overproduced fabric, our garments are made-to-order. This is our way to ensure that our planet's resources are used sustainably.

In addition, we offer custom-fit made-to-measure garments. Created to your body measurements, we give you the option for an individual garment that fits your body shape.

Zero Waste
Even though our garments aren’t made with zero waste patterns, we ensure that nothing ever goes to waste. That’s why we collect all leftover fabric scraps and use them as stuffing, for patchwork bags or our ‘famous’ Barbie and Ken miniature collections. Read below to find out more.

How is my garment made and what happens with fabric scraps during the cutting process?

Your garments are Made-to-order by Anke Wonder in Milwaukee | USA. Watch the video below to see how your garment is created or browse through Ankes Miniature Wonderland. These miniature collections in Barbie and Ken doll sizes are made with the left-over fabrics during the cutting process to further reduce any fabric waste.

How do I properly dispose of my garment at the end of its life?

At the moment we are not offering to take back your garments at the end of its life but we encourage you to donate or sell it through thredup. Thredup is an online consignment and thrift store that offers a free way to clean up your closet. Their mission is to extend the life of clothing through resale, reuse, and responsible recycling.
